Successful Caribbeaan Basketball Cconfederation Assembly held in Rodney Bay, Saint Lucia

Rodney Bay, SAINT LUCIA – The Annual Assembly of the Caribbean Basketball Confederation a Sub-Sub-Zone of FIBA took place over the weekend in Rodney Bay, Saint Lucia and under the hospitality of the Saint Lucia Basketball Federation, with important steps taken to prepare national federations for the continent’s new competition system 2017 with emphasis on the approved Group B competition system.
Attending the Assembly were FIBA’s President, Horacio Muratore and the FIBA Americas President, Usie Richards, along with representatives from National Members Federations of Antigua and Barbuda, the Bahamas, Barbados, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, Montserrat, Puerto Rico, St. Kitts and Nevis, and St. Lucia. Representatives from Curacao, Martinique and Sint Maarten were also in attendance as observers.
This year’s Assembly was presided over by CBC’s President, Glyne Clarke who laid the foundation for this year’s activities which encompassed competitions, clinics for coaches and referees and wider developments across the Caribbean sub-sub zone, as well as issues relating to the new competition system for senior men.
FIBA’s President, Horacio Muratore updated the Assembly on the developments in FIBA, and Usie Richards, FIBA Americas President updated the Assembly on the Developments in the Americas.
IBF’s Director, Florian Wanninger briefed the Assembly on the Antilles 3×3 Workshop for territories in the Lesser Antilles.
CBC’s Vice President of Finance and Marketing, Patrick Haynes updated the Assembly on the 2016 CBC U16 Championships, the upcoming FIBA Communications and Marketing workshop, the Antilles 3×3 U18 Championships, CBC’s 2017 Online Marketing Strategy and the decision of the CBC Executive Committee to facilitate the branding of all CBC pre-qualifying Championship Cups and Medals.
“With more than 13 National Member Federations of the Caribbean represented, the CBC took the opportunity to make very good decisions, always looking for the development and growth of basketball in the Caribbean.”, said Clarke.

Alberto Garcia, FIBA in the Americas Executive Director was presented with the CBC’s Service Award for his dedicated service in the development and growth of Caribbean basketball.
CBC President Glyne Clarke, closed the meeting thanking all members for their attendance and participation and invited all delegates to witness the inaugural Antilles 3×3 U18 Championships.
