The residents of the Gardens Housing Development are brimming with excitement and relief as they will finally see some much needed attention being paid to their near 30 year old Government owned Apartment Properties situated on the Bay Road. On Saturday October 29th Ambassador Jonel Powell along with representatives of the NHC and a number of Central Basseterre workmen and contracters met with tenants of the Gardens Housing Development in an overall effort to bring much needed and long overdue relief to the residents of the over 3 decades old apartment building community.
The Garden’s Housing Project has been plagued by issues which has resulted from neglect and poor maintenance during the period 1995-2015
Since taking office in February 2015 the new Team UNITY Government and Minister of Housing Hon. Eugene Hamilton met and had to deal with what was literally a messy situation. Years of little or no maintenance led to a constant septic and sewage issue which resulted in overflowing faeces that floated into apartments and on the grounds of the project.
Ambassador Powell indicated that the work has already begun in what will be an approximately $500,000.00 in renovations and upgrades in the first phase alone.
