Wife of late Reggae singer Bunny Rugs, threatens to sue Third World band
The widow of the late reggae singer, Bunny Rugs has issued a statement warning the members of the Third World Band of her intentions to take legal action against them for failure to pay over moneys owed to the late singer.
According to Bouvier Clark, the widow of the former lead vocalist of the internationally acclaimed band, she has been ignored and disrespected by the remaining members of Third World.
In a release, Clark revealed that as of July 2014, she was appointed as the personal representative of the estate of William Clark a.k.a. “Bunny Rugs” by order of the District Court of Osceola County in the State of Florida. Clark says gives her the right to demand, sue for, recover and receive all property belonging to William “Bunny Rugs” Clark.
Clark revealed that over the past two years numerous attempts have been made by her and by various attorneys representing her to communicate with the Third World band, known for hits like Now That We Found Love, Try Jah Love and 96 Degrees In The Shade. She said she has been trying to ascertain details pertaining to the business arrangements between her deceased husband and the band but has not received any favourable response from the band.
She also revealed that there have been no payments made to her late husband by the band since his passing. However, when contacted the band’s legal representative, Paul Beswick, said the statements made by Clark are false.
“The members and management of Third World Band have noted the statements attributed to Bouvier Williams, the widow of band member William “Bunny Rugs” Clark,” the statement read.
“Third World deeply regrets that Bouvier Williams has found it necessary to make the statements attributed to her which are entirely incorrect, and appear to be calculated to damage the good name and integrity of the Band and its members,” it continued.
Beswick went on further to reveal that the band is not responsible for issuing any money that should be handed over to Rugs or the person in charge of his estate; instead the payments should be made by the various performing rights societies.
“Third World rejects any assertion that it has failed to account to Bunny Rugs’ estate or that it holds any funds due to be paid to the estate. The fact is that all payments due to Bunny Rugs personally for royalties and intellectual property rights are paid individually by the various performing rights societies which handle payments of this kind,” the statement read.
“ In Bunny Rugs’ case, the payments would be made to his appointed personal representative or to some other appropriately authorized relative who would have had to have notified these societies of their appointments to the estate of Bunny Rugs,” it continued.
