USA: St.Kitts-Nevis Diplomat Jacinth Henry-Martin Takes Up New Appointment
Almagro was recently elected as the new secretary general of the hemispheric organization. The 34 member states voted for Almagro in a secret ballot. He was the only candidate after former Guatemalan vice president Eduardo Stein and Peruvian jurist Diego Garcia-Sayan withdrew their candidacies.
Almagro replaces Jose Miguel Insulza on May 25, and will serve a five-year term.
Almagro used social media on Monday 30th March to announce that his Chief of Staff will be St.Kitts-Nevis Ambassdor Jacinth Henry-Martin.
In an announcement made via twitter Almagro said “I am Happy to Announce Ambassador Jacinth Henry-Martin as my Chief of Staff as of 05-26”
H.E Henry-Martin has served as ambassador to the United States from St. Kitts and Nevis since February 2011.
Martin will be the first Caribbean Woman to hold that position.
Almagro who is the former Foreign Minister of Uruguay formally assume office this coming May 26, at the conclusion of Chilean Jose Miguel Insulza tenure Insulza held the reins of leadership of the hemispheric organization for ten years.
