Hon Byron-Nisbett: Team Unity Administration gives populace reason to be grateful

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, March 20, 2019 (PLP PR Media Inc.) — Like an open book, Team Unity Administration has dialogued with the populace through town halls and kept it abreast on the doings of the government in its development agenda. The latest are town halls captioned ‘Community Consultations’ in all the constituencies under the theme ‘Making dreams a reality in every community!’

Referring to a quote, ‘gratitude attracts more reasons to be grateful’, Senator the Hon Akilah Byron-Nisbett told a town hall meeting at the St. Johnston Community Centre in West Basseterre: “I do not think we understand how important it is and how incredibly privileged we are in St. Kitts and Nevis to have our government deciding to come to sit with us and to listen.”

The Hon Byron-Nisbett, who was delivering the vote of thanks at the end of the Team Unity’s Community Consultations on Tuesday March 19, noted that persons in other countries never get the chance to talk to their elected leaders after they are elected, but in St. Kitts and Nevis, “we can, and that is enough reasons to be grateful. It tells us that they want to hear from us.”

The Community Consultations are part of Team Unity Administration’s fourth anniversary celebrations and have already been held in Nevis, and Constituency Number Eight. Attending the town hall at the St. Johnston Community for Constituency Number Three included Prime Minister Dr the Hon Timothy Harris and members of the Team Unity Cabinet.

When it comes to the past government, the Hon Byron-Nisbett noted that people did not know what was going on, where the taxpayers’ money was being spent, and people did not understand the reasons of travels undertaken including where the leaders were going.

“This government tells us everything,” observed Senator Byron-Nisbett. “They are just an open book to us and if that is not good governance then I do not know what is. And if that is not integrity, then I do not know what is. We must be thankful for even those small things, recognising the type of privilege that we have in St. Kitts and Nevis.”

Members of Cabinet present at the town hall were Minister of Public Infrastructure et al, the Hon Ian ‘Patches’ Liburd who along with Prime Minister Harris gave remarks, Senior Minister the Hon Vance Amory, the Hon Eugene Hamilton, the Hon Lindsay Grant, the Hon Vincent Byron, and the Hon Wendy Phipps. 

At the start of the town hall, master of ceremonies Mr Lesroy Williams asked members of the audience to name some of the projects the Team Unity Administration would have started in the last four years. The audience was eager to share the accomplishments of the government that ranged from the Poverty Alleviation Programme and the Roof Repair Programme, to the Second Cruise Pier and Road Rehabilitation Programme among others.  

“Earlier this evening we would have listed a long list of things we have already achieved, and five years is not over yet,” observed the Hon Byron-Nisbett. “So if they could achieve that in that short space of time, imagine when we have five more years – five more years of prosperity: One great term deserves a next, and gratitude attracts more reasons to be grateful.”
