STATEMENT BY HON. EUGENE HAMILTON MINISTER OF AGRICULTURE

Our farmers and their produce is among the best in the world……………. .

The Government is working with farmers to rebuild the agriculture sector and ensure food security after Labour’s years of neglect.

These efforts are not helped by irresponsible comments that deliberately seek to cause panic in the community about food supply.

Or by comments that talk down our agricultural sector.

The agriculture sector should be encouraged.

Our farmers and their produce are amongst the best in the world. Indeed our local foods gets a 99% plus quality rating.

The great products from our farmers ARE available for purchase.

Those people who spend less time in the supermarkets and more time at the farmers market know this.

These consumers are supporting our farmers and encouraging them to produce even more.

Storms have always impacted our imports as well as our farmer’s ability to export their wonderful produce to other markets.

To use such an event to score political points and sow doubt about our agriculture sector is shameful.

I will always stand with and for our farmers.

My Labour opponent’s obsession with politics over good policy shows – yet again – Labour have not changed from when they were last in office.

They are still the same old Labour Party.

A Party only interested in scaring people, playing political games, and scoring political points rather than helping, encouraging and promoting the good people and the wonderful produce of our agriculture sector.
