After a long Christmas carnival break and the FA Cup round of matches, the SKNFA National Bank Premier League recommenced with round 2 at the Warner Park over the weekend. SOL Island Auto Supplies Conaree registered the biggest win on the weekend with a 5-0 drubbing of TGE Dieppe Bay Eagles on Sunday. The goal fest started with Kadeem Lewis who netted four times, starting with a penalty in the 19th minute and another penalty three minutes later.

In the second half, Lewis found the net again the 71st minute, only for his team mate Orlando Mitcham to score in the 87th minute and Lewis again rounding out the scoring in the 90th minute. Also on Sunday defending champions Flow 4G Cayon Rockets started off round 2 with a dismal 3-0 defeat to Rams Village Superstars. Village continued their excellent form from round one, having won the Carnival Cup, end the first round of the top of the league and continue to put the top teams in the competition to the sword with the quick counter attacking football. Kimaree Rogers persists in his rich vein of goal scoring form, scoring a penalty in the 10th minute, while his strike force partner Travis Somersall netted twice in the 7th and 84th minutes to round out the demolition of the defending champions.

Meanwhile, in the second of Sunday’s triple header saw St. Thomas Trinity United picking up a valuable point, pulling off a 1-1 draw against former champions S.L. Horsfords St. Pauls. St. Pauls were stunned in the first minute of play when Diquan Johnson stuck the ball in the back of the net. It would take St. Pauls deep into the second half before they found the equalizer when Akio Benjamin levelled the score in the 69th minute. St. Pauls remain the only undefeated team in the league so far this season.

On Saturday, the slow starting Elco Limited St. Peters F.C. ensured that the New Year would not start with them lagging behind, and picked up a 2-0 win against the Fast Cash Saddlers United. The win came late in the match as Saddlers were resolute in defence. The constant pressing from St. Peters eventually paid off and Dionis Stevens found the back of net twice in the space of three minutes in the latter stages of the game, namely the 77th and 80th minutes.

Winners Circle Newtown United players may still have the holiday jones in the bones as they fell 3-1 to Hobson Enterprise Garden Hotspurs. Akimba Lawrence got Newtown ahead early with in the 5th minute, but from there it was all Spurs. Kennedy Isles got the equalizer in the 11th minute and when the game seem like it was heading to a stalemate, Giovanni Lake of Spurs ensured it was a “W” for the team from Irish Town and McKnight. In the space of four minutes, Lake netted twice in the 74th and 78th minute, to give back to back defeats for Newtown, who also ended round one with a surprising loss to St. Peters. That defeat in round one had knocked them out of a chance of making the Carnival Cup semis. What made Saturday’s loss challenging for Newtown as well was the sending off of Kimron Browne in the 40th minute, which meant keeping the game at a deadlock was going to be difficult with just 10 men.
