St.Kitts-Nevis Prime Minister Harris congratulates Prime Minister-elect of Trinidad and Tobago
Basseterre, St. Kitts, September 8, 2015 (SKNIS)—On behalf of the Government and People of St. Kitts and Nevis, Prime Minister Dr. the Honourable Timothy Sylvester Harris, has extended warmest congratulations to Prime Minister-elect of Trinidad and Tobago, Dr. the Honourable Keith Sylvester Rowley.
The main Opposition People’s National Movement (PNM) led by Dr. Rowley swept to power in the general elections on September 7 ending the five-year rule of the People’s Partnership (PP) of Kamla Persad-Bissessar by winning 23 of 41 seats.
In his congratulatory message to Prime Minister-elect Dr. Rowley, Prime Minister Dr. Harris said that there was a wind of change blowing across the region.
“There is a wind of change that is blowing across our region. Your victory reflects that change. The people of Trinidad and Tobago desire a fresh start and have entrusted your team with the responsibility, at this critical juncture in history, to guide your country and people into a more dynamic and prosperous future,” Prime Minister Harris said. “I have every confidence that your Party’s convincing victory provides you the opportunity to pursue an agenda designed exclusively to better the life of all the people.”
Prime Minister Harris underscored the bonds of friendship between the two countries and said that he looked forward to working with Prime Minister-elect Dr. Rowley, 66, who is Tobagonian and a volcanologist by profession.
“The Federation of St Kitts and Nevis and the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago are halcyon Caribbean countries bonded by a history that will forever shape our fraternal relations, which I anticipate will only strengthen during your tenure.
“As a newly-elected regional leader, I wish to personally welcome you to the helm and look forward to working with you as we exchange views and chart a new, more sustainable, democratic and prosperous course for the Caribbean.
“Prime Minister, on behalf of the Government and people of St. Kitts and Nevis, and indeed on my own behalf, I offer best wishes for good health, peace and prosperity to you and the people of Trinidad and Tobago,” Prime Minister Harris said. “Please accept assurances of my highest consideration and esteem.”
