Sounds of Peace Concert Delivers Anti-Crime Message to Thousands
Basseterre, St.Kitts (February 20th 2016):-It was described as an event the Federation of St.Kitts-Nevis needed at this time. The Sounds of Peace Concert delivered more than expected in a way that was pleasing, exciting and appealing to the Thousands who packed the heart of Downtown Basseterre, St.Kitts for the massive inaugural event .
One of the Organisers of the event Samal Duggins said “There was a good positive energy throughout the event and a good feeling in the atmosphere. I think people were inspired to start making a positive difference. The energy could be felt throughout the crowd
The Sounds of Peace Anti-Crime Homegrown Concert was staged as a part of the 1st Anniversary Activities of the histori Team UNITY government and was contemplated in light of the ongoing problem with gun related shooting deaths or murders. The Federation;s top performers took to the stage and all delivered exceptional performances punctuated with a clarion Peace call and message to Stop the Violence in the country.
The event began with a very well received folklore display featuring Masquerades, Mocko Jumbies and the Mansion Bull. The Folklore presentation was followed by the first two performers in National Carnival King Astro and Nevisian Soca Prince Delly Ranks. Both delivered their signature hits with an infusion of anti-crime messages within the lyrics. Soca Queen Shanna followed with an impressive performance of her own along with Poets James Galloway and Natural Mystic. Mod Stoney and Footsy gave splendid accounts of themselves with great performances and the positive message of Stop the Violence. K Jah and Rucas of Grand Masters was fantastic and had the crowd engaged. Singing Sensation Dejour was hugely popular and performed well
The Hilight performances came from Soca Monarch Nicha B, Mr Bagnall, Infamus and the Small Axe Band. Nicha B was simply fantastic. He performed his hits White Sheets which spoke directly to and about the issue of gun violence in the federation. He gave an awesome performance. Mr Bagnall as usual delivered a very energetic and exciting set. Infamus was spectacular. He commanded the audience and delivered a performance worthy of his stature as one of the island premier acts. Ending the night was the 4 time back to back to back to back Road March Champions who took the event down to 12:30am
Prime Minister Dr. Timothy Harris also made a special appearance and appealed to the youth to use their talents in a positive way and gave his government;s commitment to the development of youth. He also made and appeal to stop the violence.
The Team UNITY government has embarked on a number of youth development initiatives that will enhance the fight against crime as more and more youths will be facilitated by the government in positive engagements.
