Sonia Boddie-Thompson Celebrates 15 Years of Dedicated Public Service

Sonia Boddie-Thompson, a distinguished diplomat and public servant, is marking a significant milestone today—15 years of unwavering dedication and exemplary service to the people of St. Kitts and Nevis.

Renowned for her expertise in diplomacy, mediation, and public administration, Boddie-Thompson’s career trajectory showcases a blend of passion, professionalism, and a commitment to nation-building. Reflecting on her journey, she expressed gratitude for the support of her mentors, colleagues, and stakeholders, which she credits for shaping her into an accomplished and astute public servant.

“I am eternally grateful to God for sustaining me throughout the years,” Boddie-Thompson shared. “Today, I celebrate this milestone as a big win, not just for myself but for the country I proudly serve.”

Boddie-Thompson began her career in the Ministry of Finance as a Senior Tax Inspector and Public Relations Officer for the VAT Implementation Team. Her dynamic public engagement earned her the affectionate nicknames “Miss VAT” and “VAT Lady,” reflecting her zeal for educating citizens on their tax responsibilities.

Her journey progressed as she became Supervisor of the Taxpayer Services, Education, and Registration Division at the Inland Revenue Department, where she championed modernization efforts, particularly in e-services.

In 2015, she transitioned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where her linguistic proficiency in English and Spanish, combined with advanced training, positioned her as an influential Foreign Service Officer. Rising to the role of Senior Foreign Service Officer, she led initiatives to strengthen bilateral relations and expanded scholarship opportunities for citizens.

Boddie-Thompson also broke barriers as the first female and youngest Clerk of the National Assembly in the region, serving from 2017 to 2021. In this role, she worked tirelessly to enhance legislative processes, contributing significantly to the nation’s parliamentary framework.

Currently, she serves as Counsellor at the Permanent Mission of St. Kitts and Nevis to the United Nations in New York City. Prior to this, she held a similar role at the Permanent Mission to the Organization of American States in Washington, D.C., further solidifying her reputation as a skillful diplomat on the global stage.

Reflecting on her achievements, Boddie-Thompson noted, “It’s been an incredible 15 years of service, growth, and inspiring others to effect positive change. I remain committed to developing my country and eagerly anticipate the next chapter of my journey.”

With an MSc in Public Administration, a BSc in International Relations, and numerous accolades under her belt, Boddie-Thompson continues to be a trailblazer in public service. Her celebration today is a testament to her enduring dedication to the motto: “Country Above Self.”
