Nominees for Constable of the Year- Nevis Division with the Governor General Sir S. W. Tapley Seaton, PM Harris, Premier Amory, Commissioner Queeley and Divisional Commander Supt Mills

Basseterre, St. Kitts, March 06, 2017 (RSCNPF):  Using the writing,  “A message to Garcia” as the foundation for his remarks during the “Constable of the Year” Award Ceremony on Saturday (March 04) for the Nevis Division, Commissioner of Police Mr. Ian M. Queeley told the nine Police Constables nominated for the award that they are the “Rowan’s of our Police Service.”

Commissioner Queeley said, “these Nine Constables are the “get it done teammates”,  the “go to Constables”,  the “will  make it happen” persons within their Work Centres. They are today’s version of the U S. Army Second Lieutenant Rowan,  spoken about in the short story penned in 1899, one hundred and eighteen (118) years ago, by Elbert Hubbard entitled  “A message to Garcia”.

Commissioner Queeley added, “just  like Rowan,  they have embraced their task without asking why;  why not Constable so and so;  or they do not ask, where do I find it, or him;  and just as important, they don’t take the easy way out. They are focussed.  They are mission and goal oriented.”

The nine (9) Constables nominated for the award were: Const. Carl Gordon, Const. Gleason Burke, Const. Etroy Jeffers, Const. Keith Pemberton, Const. Lennox Hodge, Constable Kennedy Stevens, Woman Const. Octavia Boyd, Const. Shayne James and Const. Kerran Nicholas.

At the end of the evening Police Constable Kerran Nicholas was selected as the “Constable of the Year” with Constables Keith Pemberton and Shayne James being selected as first (1st) and second (2nd) runner-ups respectively.

Remarks were also given by Nevis Division Commander, Superintendent Trevor Mills, Premier of Nevis, the Honourable Vance Amory, Prime Minister Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris.  The Featured Address was delivered by Pastor Clive Saunders of the Unique Touch Christian Centre in Sandy Point.

Tapley Seaton,  members of the Nevis Island Administration and representatives to the Nevis Island Assembly, members of the Judiciary, Gazetted Officers and rank and file of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force, senior Officials from the Ministry of National Security, Police Service supporters from the Nevis community and a large group of supportive and very appreciative family members.
