Basseterre, St. Kitts, March 03, 2016 (RSCNPF):  A police officer assigned to the Nevis Division has been convicted on a number of traffic related charges stemming from a vehicle accident on January 17, 2016 in Nanton’s Corner, Nevis.

 

Police Constable Wayne Hanley appeared before the Learned Magistrate, Her Honour Miss Yasmine Clark on Tuesday (March 01) to answer the following charges.  Driving without a valid or unexpired licence, driving without due care and attention and driving without a policy of insurance.

 

He was found guilty on all charges and sentenced to a fine of $1000 to be paid in six (6) months or one (1) month in prison on the charge of driving without a licence,  a fine of $500 to be paid in six (6) months or one (1) month in prison on the charge of driving without due care and attention and a fine of $500 to be paid in three (3) months or one (1) month in prison on the charge of driving without a policy of insurance.  He was also cautioned for using a vehicle without consent of the owner.

 

“The prosecution of this constable is a clear indication that the leadership of the Police Service will hold all officers accountable for their actions” said Deputy Commissioner and Head of the Nevis Division Hilroy Brandy.  He added, “and that we intend to hold our Officers to the same standard as we do with all citizens with respect to the laws of the Federation.”

 

As in keeping with the policies of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force,  Officer Hanley is expected to appear before a disciplinary tribunal in relation to this incident.
