Basseterre, St. Kitts, October 30, 2016 (RSCNPF):  Officers of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force donned their ceremonial uniforms on Sunday (October 30) and attended church services at the Zion Moravian Church on St. Kitts and the New Testament Church in Bath Village Nevis.

The services were a part of the recently re-introduced “Police Week” which will run from Saturday (October 29) to Saturday (November 05) and is being celebrated under the theme “Creating a Better Federation Through Enhanced Citizen Safety.”

The Governor General, His Excellency Sir S. W. Tapley Seaton, Prime Minister Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris, several members of the Cabinet,  a number of Senior Government officials, members of the Diplomatic Corps and Regional Organizations were also present.

In a show of solidarity,  officers representing Her Majesty’s Prison, the St. Kitts Nevis Defence Force, Her Majesty’s Customs and Excise Department and the St. Kitts and Nevis Fire and Rescue Services were also present.

The old testament reading at the service was done by Police Constable Donarly Liburd Chiverton and Prime Minister Dr the Honourable Timothy Harris presented from the new testament.

The congregation was moved by a heartfelt plea to get involved in the fight against crime by Assistant Commissioner of Police Merclyn Hughes.  ACP Hughes was then accompanied by Superintendent of Police Diane Mills for a moving testimony in song.

In his sermon to the congregation and the gathered officers, Reverend Hilton Joseph of the Zion Moravian Church reminded that “in the midst of all that is going on…. we should look to God.”

At the conclusion of the service the officers paraded down Victoria Road to the Police Headquarters and rendered a salute to the Minister of National Security(Ag) the Honourable Ian Liburd.

“Police Week” activities continue with a Grand Parade through Basseterre on Monday morning (October 31),  visits to schools on Tuesday, an award ceremony for Long Service and Good Conduct on Wednesday, and a Job Fair on Friday.   Social events during the week includes Domino competitions,  sporting events, and a talent and karaoke show.
