The People’s Labour Party will be holding its third annual convention this week under the theme “Improving our communities with PLP in Unity.” Established in only March 2013, the party has gone from strength to strength, increasing its reach since its inception into the heartlands of communities. This has enabled the People’s Labour Party to truly understand the needs of the people and which has resulted in the party selecting its theme “Improving our communities with PLP in Unity” for this year’s convention.
Over the previous year, the party has held a number of events designed to empower people to make a significant difference to the quality of their lives. These have included the much loved “Help a Child Program” where children receive education bursaries, volunteering events inspiring pride in the community, support for senior citizens and the Prime Minister’s Health Walks. Prime Minister Harris, who is also the Party’s Leader has had a keen focus on the prevention of non-communicable diseases and to this end has held monthly health walks accompanied by party members across a number of constituencies. The walks have been both beneficial for participants as well as creating an apt platform for helping persons to better understand how to improve and maintain good health.
Party Chairman Warren Thompson said:
“This last year has been a year of significant achievement. People and relationships are important to us and to this end we have enhanced cross party-working so that we can truly reflect and meet the many needs of the people of St Kitts and Nevis. We have also strengthened and deepened our community ties and it is this combination of partnership working for better communities that we want to give greater focus to over the coming year. Our forthcoming convention will enable us to celebrate our achievements to date and to reinforce our vision for the future.”
The convention will be in two parts allowing the party the space and due time for the discussion of these issues at its private session when elections will take place for all members of the Executive along with the Party’s officers. The Private Session will held at 6.30pm on Wednesday March 13, 2019 at the Marriott Hotel. The Convention will resume with its Public Session on Saturday March 16, 2019 at 4pm at the Patsy Allers Playfield when performers will be welcomed to the stage alongside the formal presentations and speeches. Updates about the convention will be posted on the People’s Labour Party Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/PLPSKN/ as well as on Twitter @PLPSKN.
