PAM Leader Natasha Grey-Brookes Slams 4% VAT Discount as a “Joke”

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS – Leader of the People’s Action Movement (PAM), Natasha Grey-Brookes, has strongly criticized the government’s recently announced 4% VAT Discount, calling it a “joke” and an insult to struggling families.

In a fiery social media post, Grey-Brookes took aim at the policy, arguing that it overwhelmingly benefits the wealthy while offering little relief to minimum wage and middle-income earners.

“That so-called ‘savings’ is an insult! You have to shell out a whopping $2500 just to see a measly $100 back in VAT reduction? That’s not a deal, it’s a rip-off disguised as one!” she wrote.

The PAM leader further questioned how low-income families would benefit from such a structure, pointing out that a minimum wage worker does not even earn $2500 per month.

“Who has that kind of money to throw around just to get a tiny fraction back? This ‘benefit’ is clearly designed for the wealthy, leaving our minimum wage and middle-income earners out in the cold. It’s a slap in the face to working families struggling to make ends meet. Frankly, it’s a joke.”

Grey-Brookes’ criticism adds to growing concerns that the VAT discount is insufficient to address the rising cost of living in St. Kitts and Nevis. Many citizens have echoed similar sentiments, arguing that the measure fails to provide meaningful financial relief to those who need it most.

The government has yet to respond to the PAM leader’s remarks, but with mounting public dissatisfaction, the debate over economic policies and cost-of-living measures is expected to intensify.
