Knocked out of operation by relatively powerful winds associated with Hurricane Irma on September 6, BVI Cable TV today gave the clearest indication of continued losses when it announced the suspension of all bills.
It hopes to resume business when its demolished network is restored, but restoration is yet to commence because the cable firm does not yet have electricity.
In fact, the government-owned power provider – BVI Electricity Corporation (BVIEC) – does not yet know exactly when it will resume electricity distribution, considering that its network was also brought down by the category 5 hurricane.
BVI Cable TV, which already announced job cuts, issued a media release today, saying: “Due to the loss of the network infrastructure during the passing of Hurricane Irma, all BVI Cable TV bills have been suspended.”
“Rebuilding our cable network will commence once electricity infrastructure is in place. We commend the amazing job BVIEC is doing restoring electric power to the community, and look forward to piggybacking on their efforts to restore our cable network infrastructure.”
The cable company further said: “We will continue to provide updates as restoration progresses, and we look forward to welcoming back all of our customers with improved service, packages, and programming when we return.”
