Basseterre, St. Kitts, May 10, 2018 (SKNIS): At an Appreciation Ceremony held at the Royal St. Kitts Hotel on May 09, Minister of Culture, Deputy Prime Minister the Honourable Shawn Richards, thanked and distributed tokens of appreciation to the Federation’s ambassadors for their work on Sugar Mas 46 and gave words of encouragement for their upcoming travels to various islands to represent the Federation.
The ambassadors are Karisia Willett, National Calypso Monarch; Sheniqua Lanns, National Carnival Queen; Anya Seetahal, Miss Talented Teen; Jackiema Flemming, winner of National Carnival Swimsuit Pageant; Arundell Dore, National Carnival Mr. GQ; Bjorn Bassue, National Soca Monarch; and Kendra Hutton, National Female Monarch.
Minister Richards said to the ambassadors that their participation in the various carnival activities gives them an opportunity to network and gain personal development. He also appealed to the ambassadors to represent themselves well as individuals and as ambassadors of the Federation.
“I think that you have come to the general recognition that you are ambassadors for the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis but before you can be ambassadors for the Federation, first and foremost you have to be ambassadors for yourselves. You have to represent yourselves well. You have to take a level of pride in yourself as well as in your accomplishments,” he said.
Minister Richards thanked the Royal St. Kitts Hotel for its long standing relationship with the Ministry of Culture and the Carnival Committee over the past three years. He noted that the hotel has been generous in offering support in the form of gift certificates for nightly stays and other services.
“Let me ask Mr. Thompson, general manager, to extend our profound gratitude to Mr. Zuliani, owner of the hotel, for all of the assistance he has given to the Carnival Committee to date,” he said.
Each ambassador was awarded with a weekend stay at the hotel to be used at their leisure.
National Carnival Chairman, Noah Mills, said that the event was held to show appreciation for all of the winners, especially those that will be travelling overseas for all their hard work and dedication up until this point.
“It is to show appreciation first and foremost for all of the sacrifices you would have made as individuals, your families, your professional lives to contribute to Sugar Mas 46,” he stated.
He also told the ambassadors that “it is important for you to understand that your beliefs, attitudes, intentions as well as behaviours are to be adjusted because you are no longer an ordinary national. You are in the eyes of the public and they are now looking at you in a different manner because you’ve now been transformed into national ambassadors.”
