Machel Montana, Elvis Crespo and Destra Garcia among headliners for Opening Night St. Kitts Music Festival
Soca’s Biggest Star Machel Montana is expected to be the main headliner and for the opening night of the St.Kitts Music Festival 2014. Organisers have indicated that Montano will climax a magnificent night of Soca and Calypso music on the first night of the 18th Annual Festival, which takes places on Thursday, June 26th to Saturday June 28th, 2014.
Traditionall labeled the Soca or “Jump Up” night , the Thursday night will also feature Soca Princess Destra Garcia, Calypso Legend Explainer, Vincentian Soca Star Skinny Fabulous, Latin Merengue Star Elvis Crespo and the Multiple Time St.Kitts Road March Champions the Small Axe Band .
St. Kitts Minister of Tourism & International Transport, Senator Ricky Skerritt, described the Thursday lineup as extraordinary.
“I have no doubt that these enigmatic Caribbean artists will electrify the crowd and make an indelible mark on the event,” Minister Skerritt said. “Machel and Destra are no strangers to the St. Kitts Music Festival, and it is not by accident that we keep inviting them back.”
Legendary calypsonian, Explainer, is known for his hits ‘Lorraine,’ ‘Not Me’ and ‘The Monarchy and Heroes.’ Skinny Fabulous is an unmistakably energetic soca artiste from St. Vincent & the Grenadines, well appreciated for ‘Summer Body,’ ‘Badder Than Everybody’ , a collaboration with Machel Montano called ‘Fetting On and his Labour Party Political Anthem “Me and Me Neighbour Voting For Labour,” (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rWVhok17G_Y ) Whether Fabulous’ political anthem was a factor in influencing his invite to this years fest has had many locals music festival and political observers pondering as St.Kitts-Nevis is in the midst of a very heated political campaign which has been underlined by a 18 month long Motion of No Confidence with the Dr. Denzil Douglas government, who commands minority support among the elected parliamentarians, has refused to have debated.
The other headliner is Elvis Crespo who is an American-born Puerto Rican Grammy and Latin Grammy Award-winning Merengue singer. Crespo’s popular songs include ‘Suavemente,’ ‘Pintame’ and ‘Sopa De Caracol – Yupi’ which features Pitbull. The Thursday night line-up will also showcase the local multiple times Road March Champions the Small Axe Band which has excited St. Kitts Music Festival opening night crowds on numerous occasions.
