Basseterre, St.Kitts (March 25th, 2019):- The High Court in St.Kitts-Nevis has delivered a judgement which declares that a Dr. Denzil Douglas led SKN Labour Party government law introduced in 2011 is not reasonably justified in a democratic society.
Mr. Leon Natta challenged the code of conduct and ethics rules that prohibit public servants from engaging in politics . The Civil Service Act was passed in 2011 and other supplementary legislation including Code of Conduct and Ethics was introduced in 2014. The Court declared that the Douglas Administration passed legislation was not reasonably justifiable in a democratic society. They further declared that the Douglas introduced and passed law is “unconstitutional, null, void, and of no effect”
Mr Natta, a Senior Officer at Customs, is seeking to engage in political activity and run for political office while remaining a public servant.
