Hon Patches Liburd Continues To Commit 50% Of Salary To Development of East Basseterre through Social Assistance and Youth Development Fund
East Basseterre, St.Kitts (November 26th 2016):-Hon. Ian “Patches” Liburd continues to stay true to his promise of committing half of his Ministerial Salary to the development of East Bassetere and the Families of East Basseterre.
In a pre-election campaign promise the East Basseterre MP pledged half his salary during a Team UNITY Rally in 2013. The popular MP stated “I pledge here and now to serve you. And I also pledge here and now, that when elected, I will give instructions to the Treasury to deduct 50% of my salary to be lodged into a scholarship fund for every single school in this constituency.”
Immediately upon taking office in fulfillment of that promise Hon. Liburd established the The Ian Patches Liburd Social Assistance and Youth Development Fund . The fund still stands today as a testament to Minister Liburd’s commitment to help the country, especially the people of his constituency in East Basseterre.
The main source of income for the fund comes from half of his salary which is paid into the fund monthly. The fund has delivered medication, school supplies, hundreds of lunches to those in need and other forms of social assistance to the people of East Basseterre. This Christmas, the fund will also see the provision of toys to children in his constituency. Hon. Liburd began the Christmas Party Toys to children programme even before being elected.
The Fund is administered and Managed by a Board which is chaired by Former General Manager of the SKNA National Bank Mr Ernest Jimmy Pistana . Other Board Members include Chris “Moonlight” Roberts, Leasa Lewis, Randolph ‘Africa’ James and Cleopatra Lake .
Liburd’s Ministerial Salary commitment is very likely the only one of it’s kind in the region.
