It is with sadness that I learned of this morning’s passing of Reginald Thomas, better known to all as Calypso Reggie, a fellow villager and friend of mine.
In St. Kitts and Nevis more often than not, whenever someone says “Reggie” the first person that comes to mind is the person who has become a national cultural and entertainment icon and enterprising businessman, Calypso Reggie.
Reggie warmed the hearts of many with his high-end calypso and comedic performances at carnival village and elsewhere, mainly during our most celebrated national festival, our end of year Carnival.
He was also instrumental in keeping alive many village festivals, notably Village-O-Rama, one of the most successful of its kind in our federation.
His contributions to nation building included his pioneering efforts in advertising and public relations. He served as the President of the Parent Teachers Association at the Beach Allen Primary School for a number of years, demonstrating his commitment to life and country and a resilience to addressing challenges that made him the envy of many.
Reggie will be sorely missed.
On behalf of the people and government of St. Kitts and Nevis and on my own behalf and that of my family, I extend condolences to his family and friends. I ask that we keep them in our prayers in this their time of sorrow.
May the soul of calypso Reggie rest in eternal peace.
