Sugar Workers $16 Million Payout to be Delivered on September 18th
The broad based committee set up to oversee the EC$16 Million payment to Sugar Workers has submitted their report to the Cabinet of the Team UNITY Administration. As a result a decision has been taken to make payments to aggrieved Sugar Workers beginning on September 18th 2015
The broad-based committee which comprised representatives from the Private and Public Sector as well as the Trades and Labour Union and the Venezuelan government submitted their report based on months of compiling and analysis of documents including hundreds of form completed by the former workers.
The Cabinet expressed gratitude to the committee for their months of labour on a very signific
ant matter which has provided justice to aggrieved former Sugar Workers.
The payment will no doubt serve as n Independence gift to the thousands of former sugar workers . Many of whom toiled in the industry for upwards of 4 decades.
In 2005 The Sugar Industry was Closed and as a result thousands of workers were left without a job . Some of these persons had worked in the industry for almost 50 years in some cases. The Dr. Denzil Douglas led administration had promised the workers a $42 million payout as compensation for the relatively abrupt closure of the over 100 year old industry. However only $28 million of that amount was actually paid out to the over 2500 workers. The remaining $16 million remained outstanding .
This is awesome. But I am hoping that my I will be collecting on behalf of my deceased dad, Peter Hercules, whom I take care of up to his passing.
To the Government keep up the good work and put God first in everything you do.
God bless
Ramona
