As the Premier from February 21, 1980, to the moment of independence on September 19, 1983, Sir Kennedy laid the foundation for a new era.Upon independence, Sir Kennedy Simmonds was ushered in as the first Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, a role he held with distinction until 1995.
