Basseterre, St. Kitts (December 11, 2019) — The north-eastern part of St. Kitts once boasted three small boutique hotels which have since closed, but according to Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Dr the Hon Timothy Harris, the soon to be opened ERA Development Hotel in Brighton Estate, Cayon, will be a major boost to the area’s social-economic development.

Prime Minister Harris made the remarks on Monday December 9 during the launch of the 240-room, five-star styled, ERA Development Hotel. With him to turn the first sod were Principals of ERA Development Mr Zhongliang Xin (President) and Mr Leo Xin (CEO), the Area Parliamentary Representative the Hon Eugene Hamilton, and CEO of the Citizenship by Investment Unit Mr Les Khan.

“I give a hearty welcome to the ERA Development for choosing this site, which in history is an important one in the context of the on-going development in the north-eastern parts of the country,” said Dr Harris.

According to the Prime Minister, the north-eastern part of St. Kitts in the past had the three small boutique hotels, the Ottley’s Plantation Inn which was not far from the new site for ERA Development Hotel in Brighton, Cayon, in Constituency Number Eight, the Golden Lemon, and Rawlins Plantation in Constituency Number Six.

“All those boutique properties with their long history nested in our cane fields and part of that history, they are no longer with us,” said Dr Harris. “We have in their stead, coming soon, something larger, described as a five-star facility which will come here and bringing with it some 240 rooms. This is a major development and a major addition to the social-economic landscape of our country.”

The Team Unity Cabinet, noted the Prime Minister, welcomes this major investment which with its 240 rooms would mean somewhere in the region of 480 people at work.

“Imagine 480 people at work right here; what that will do for all the other support services that they will consume, not just in Green Valley (Cayon area) but beyond,” remarked Dr Harris. “480 people will require transportation, and so we will have more to and fro and therefore that gas station very close by would be a major beneficiary of the success of this particular hotel which we hope will be completed on time.”

The Prime Minister recognised representatives of the commerce and industrial sector present at the launch ceremony who included Mr Anthony Kelsick, Chairman and Managing Director of SL Horsford & Co Ltd; Mr Les Khan, CEO of the Citizenship by Investment Unit; and Mr Randolph Edmeade, Director of the Development Control and Planning Board.
