NIA CHARLESTOWN NEVIS (June 01, 2017) — The Nevis Island Administration (NIA) received the third instalment from an EC$9 million the Sugar Industry Diversification Fund (SIDF) commitment to the $18million Alexandra Hospital Expansion Project.
Dr. Robertine Chaderton, Chairperson of the SIDF Board of Counsellors handed over the cheque to Premier of Nevis and Minister of Finance Hon. Vance Amory, at the project’s ground breaking ceremony on May 31, 2017.
Two previous instalments from the Fund were used to pay for the building’s steel frame. The third instalment, however, will be used to mobilize contractors to commence construction.
In brief remarks, Dr. Chaderton congratulated the NIA for undertaking the project. She said it was an important undertaking to everyone on Nevis, residents and visitors alike, since health affects everyone.
The SIDF official expressed hope that the team of persons involved in the construction of the expansion project has already been assembled and that they would work efficiently and effectively to complete the project on time and within budget.
In conclusion Dr. Chaderton asked those present to recognise the SIDF’s deep interest in projects involved in the economic development both in St. Kitts and in Nevis.
On receipt of the cheque, Mr. Amory handed it over to Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Finance Mr. Colin Dore. In turn, he handed the cheque to Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health Mrs. Nichole Slack-Liburd who passed it on to the Hospital Administrator Gary Pemberton.
The project is being financed jointly between the SIDF and the NIA. The $9million from the SIDF is in the form of half grant and half loan on concessionary terms.
