BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, May 15, 2017 (PLP PR Media Inc.) — On the auspicious occasion of the universal celebration of Mother’s Day this year held on Sunday May 14, Prime Minister of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis Dr the Hon Timothy Harris has praised women for the role they have played in the development of the nation.
Prime Minister Harris, who is also the Political Leader of the Peoples Labour Party (PLP) joined members of the PLP Branch #7 Women Empowerment Group for a church service at the New Testament Church of God on Main Street in Tabernacle where Senior Pastor Mrs Octavia Warner led the congregation in the celebration of Mother’s Day.
True to her calling, Pastor Warner’s relevant message was based on chapter one of the book of Ruth where Ruth is quoted as telling her mother-in-law Naomi, ‘Your God will be my God’ and ‘Your people will be my people’. Two powerful testimonials were read by two ladies in praise of their mothers, and one of the mothers, Mrs Angela Daniel was honoured. Her testimonial was read by her daughter Ms N’Shari Daniel.
“I want to thank Pastor Warner for allowing us to come and to worship today because this is a very fabulous day and I hope who came out felt a special sense of blessing from the very lovely programme that was presented today, and testimonies I hope would inspire all of our mothers to continue to do good,” said Prime Minister Harris.
“On this day I want to give congratulations to all mothers everywhere and to thank them for their love, their guidance, and their instructions to the children of the nation. In most of our organisations, our health sector, our education sector, our political parties, even our churches, the womenfolk are providing leadership; an important service that can help build a lovely nation further as a Nation under God.”
The Prime Minister publicly thanked the leader of the PLP Branch #7 Women Empowerment Group Ms Sonia Henry, who is also one of the two Representatives of the Women’s Arm of the Peoples Labour Party, for having come up with the idea of holding a church service on Mother’s Day to honour women in general.
He described Ms Henry as a prayer warrior who is active in the church, telling the congregation that in good times and in bad times he could always count on her for a word of prayer. He thanked all those who turned out for the special service, many he noted he had not seen for a while.
Also introduced by the Peoples Labour Party Political Leader were other PLP executive members present in church. They were Senator Akilah Byron-Nisbett who is PLP’s Deputy Political Leader who lives at Mattingley who left her own church to join them in Tabernacle. The others were PLP Youth Representative Mr Manasses Huggins, and PLP’s National Secretary Ms Myrtilla Williams.
“I want to on behalf of us (PLP National Executive) all to say a hearty thank you, to wish our womenfolk well, to hope that you continue to show love for God, to bring Him in your life and in your work,” noted Dr Harris. “Today’s coming out allows me an opportunity to wish you well.”
In reference to the two ladies who read testimonials of their mothers, the Prime Minister said: “So like all those other children who were able to give good testimonials, your children may one day, in fact each day indicate to you how blessed they are as a result of your leadership. So all the wonderful things that have taken place in church today, we say to God be the glory, and thank you very much for having us. I love you, God bless you all.”
Ms Marecia Pemberton paid a glowing tribute to her mother, Sister Sabeina Julius, on how the mother used to pray for her. She also read a prose she had written on what colours orange, green and gold mean. According to Ms Pemberton, Senior Pastor Mrs Octavia Warner had requested her to do it and she did some research and ended up with the write-up on the rainbow.
“You can only see a rainbow when the sun is behind you and the rain is in front of you,” said Ms Pemberton. “It is God’s gentle reminder of His promise to us and while all of the colours hold a special meaning, the colours orange and green are particularly important. Gold on the on the other hand, while is not found in the rainbow, is also very special.”
She continued: “The colour orange reflects a new seasons and it has been known to promote a sense of general wellness and emotional energy. From a biblical standpoint it symbolises the fire of God, deliverance and passionate praise.”
Ms Pemberton noted that according to psychologists, people who associate with themselves with colour orange are usually seen as social butterflies that sincerely love people and like to be around others.
At the end of the service, as Prime Minister Harris was presenting roses as a symbol of recognition and thanks to each female leaving the church, five-month old Miss Vionyah Matthew who is his goddaughter surprised onlookers as her inquisitive hands reached out in enthrallment to the rose her mother Ms Shermel Cumberbatch was receiving.
