The Annual Convention drew easily one of the largest crowds in the history of the event. Every one of the 700 plus chairs ordered for the event were filled with hundreds more standing and watching the afternoon’s event via large screens on the lawns of the PAM Party Headquarters. The historic convention was attended by party members, supporters and friends. The PAM Elected MPs were joined by their cabinet colleagues including Prime Minister, the Honourable Dr. Timothy Harris, Senior Minister and Premier of Nevis, the Honourable Vance Amory and Deputy Premier of Nevis Hon. Mark Brantley and other members of the Federal Cabinet, and members of the diplomatic and consular corps.
The Convention was addressed by Grenadian Senator Hon Peter David who gave an exciting, inspiring and thought provoking presentation which has been described by all as one of the best keynote addressed ever presented at the 52 year old event.
The Highlight of the convention however was undoubtedly the presentation delivered by the charismatic and dynamic PAM Leader Deputy Prime Minister Hon. Shawn K. Richards. Hon. Richards declared to the massive audience “WE NOT TURNING BACK!” A clarion call that was very well received as Deputy Prime Minister Richards went on to mention and highlight some of the many issues that plagued the country under the dark days of the former Dr. Denzil Douglas led SKN Labor Party regime.
“It has been with great resilience that our party has weathered the many political storms that visited throughout the past five decades. In fact, despite already being in office again for over two years, our detractors continue to dwell in false hope, that they would find favor with the citizens who soundly rejected them at the polls in 2015. But as the people have said in a recent survey, “We are not turning back”! Declared Hon. Richards in his stirring keynote address
“As a Party again in government, continuing on this present voyage, the People’s Action Movement is moving forward to continue, with its partners in coalition, to deliver on the promises of prosperity for all,” Hon. Richards continued.
The People’s Action Movement holds 4 of the 11 Parliamentary seats in the federation thus making the party the strongest individual political party in St.Kitts-Nevis. Despite this fact though the party through the leader Hon. Richards and other MP’s expressed the party’s aim to strengthen in order to make the tri-party Team UNITY movement even stronger. The Prime Minister Dr. Timothy Harris led PLP, a partner in the tri-party Team UNITY also made a similar commitment to strengthening their party to ensure an indomitable Team UNITY government at their inaugural convention held a few weeks ago. Premier Vance Amory, leader of the CCM the third party in the Unity coalition also has expressed similar sentiments.
Premier Amory and Prime Minister Harris both brought fraternal greetings to the event and both were warmly and enthusiastically received by the large audience.
