“Tata” Leads Spurs to first SKNFA President’s Cup

Tahir Tata Hanley

Basseterre, St.Kitts (September 3rd 2016):- The silverware collection of the Hobson Enterprises Garden Hotspurs continued to grow in dramatic style at Warner Park as the 50 year old Football Club defeated Cayon 4G Rockets  1-0 to win the SKNFA Presidents Cup.

The match started off slowly for Spurs and came close to capitalizing as they had two opportunities to go ahead in the first 15 minutes but Golden Glove winner Zeleon Morton produced two fine saves to keep the team in the match. It took the team some time to settle down and get their own game going.  The best opportunity to get on the score-sheet came 5 Minutes before the half when striker Tahir Hanley struck a fine shot that seemed destined to be a goal but former Spurs goalkeeper Adolphus Jones produced a sprawling save to deny him and to keep the scores level at halftime.

The second half of the match saw a much better performance by Spurs as they dominated possession for long periods of time and were creating many opportunities. A notable turning point in the match were the substitutes appearances by Shewrin Allen and debutant Marlo Martin, both wingers brought much needed offensive drive to our attack. The match winner came compliments of  Marlon who sent in a dangerous cross which was controlled by a Cayon defender in the penalty area and Tahir pounced and poked the ball into the net to put the team ahead.

Three minutes added time was played and Cayon came close to an equalizer as there was a mix up between goalkeeper Morton and defender Flemming but the pair was lucky enough to escape what could have been a damaging situation. Cayon were later awarded a corner kick in the final moments but it was cleared and referee Tristley Bassue blew the final whistle which saw Spurs lift the trophy for the first time.

A minute of silence was done before the match in respect to one of our former players and fan Kevin “Money Clume” Heyliger.
