Basseterre, St. Kitts, September 11, 2015 (SKNIS): The investment by the St. Kitts and Nevis government in security forces has produced results which have drawn commendation from Dave King, a security consultant with more than 30 years in law enforcement in the United Kingdom.

Speaking at the Prime Minister’s Monthly Press Conference on Thursday, September 10, Mr. King said that the security infrastructure has been bolstered with new equipment particularly in the Crime Scene Investigation Department (CSI). Additional resources have also been dedicated to the Violent Crime Unit (VCU).

“I have been investigating homicides for a large number of years, some successes here that I have not seen anywhere else in the world in terms of some of the CSI findings, in terms of finger prints etc,” said Mr. King.

According to Vaughan Henderson, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), recent statistics from the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force (RSCNPF) have pointed to a 33.3 percentage detection rate for homicides, which meets international standards.

Mr. King stated that forty-three (43) detectives and supervisors have been trained in various investigative techniques which have led to the success rate. This has resulted in increased public support.

“We have noticed in the last few weeks an increase in cooperation from the public on both islands,” stated King, adding that the “CSI needs some credit and the VCU has been working assiduously.”

Mr. King said that the problems in St. Kitts and Nevis are not peculiar to the Caribbean. The problems he stated “have manifested themselves roughly since 1999. They have not arrived overnight nor will they be solved overnight.”

Mr. King and his team have been in the Federation for the past three months assisting local authorities.

A grant from the Republic of China (Taiwan) has ensured that the collaboration between the government and Mr. King and his team will continue for the foreseeable future.
