ST.KITTS: New Board of Executives Take the Helm of Rotary Club of Liamuiga
Basseterre, St. Kitts – The exquisite grounds of the newly-renovated Ocean Terrace Inn offered an excellent atmosphere for the Rotary Club of Liamuiga’s Annual Installation Ceremony and Awards Banquet held on July 1, 2015. The prestigious event was held under the Rotary International theme for 2015-2016 – “Be a Gift to the World”.
The Rotary Club of Liamuiga is part of a worldwide association of Rotary clubs whose mission is to provide service to others, promote high ethical standards among its own members and members of our society at large and advance world understanding of goodwill and peace through its fellowship of business, professional and community leaders. The work of the Club is coordinated by a board of dedicated officers who serve a one-year term (July 1-June 30).
The following Rotarians were installed as the new officers and board of directors for the 2015-2016 Rotary year:
• President – Tuffida Stewart
• Vice President – Lester Hanley
• Immediate Past President – Marcus L Natta
• President-elect – Carol Phillips
• Secretary – Natasha St. Juste
• Treasurer – Kaii Mills
• Sargeant-at-Arms – Valentine Hodge
• Directors – Cameron Wilkinson, Chris English, Eustace Warner, Maritza Bowry, Chérisse Gardner-Williams and Sandra Fontenelle.
• In addition to the board of directors, committee chairs were also installed:
• Club Administration Chair – Kristal Gardner
• Public Relations Chair – Marcus L Natta
• Membership Chair – Sandra Fontenelle
• Youth Service Chair – Chérisse Gardner-Williams
• Service Projects Chair – Maritza Bowry
• Rotary Foundation Chair – Tashna Powell-Williams
The oaths of office were administered by Assistant District Governor Trevor Blake after which President Tuffida Stewart outlined her plans and vision for the new Rotary year.
“Fellows Rotarians I want you to reflect on this year’s Rotary International theme “Be a Gift to the World”, our motto “Service Above Self” and the ethical guidelines as set out in the Rotary “4-Way Test”. I then invite you to engage in introspection and think about how you can be a gift to the world,” said President Stewart. “I ask that you consider not only gifts of time, expertise and resources but that you also consider gifts that have lasting imprints on the hearts of others: gifts of compassion, tolerance, understanding, recognition and hope.”
In addition to the official installation of officers, the evening’s programme also featured an address from Immediate Past President Dr Marcus L Natta who gave an overview of the past Rotary year and the activities and achievements of the Club. Immediate Past President Natta also presented a number of awards:
•Mrs Frances Taylor of Tabernacle was recognized for her stellar service to the elderly and home care in general.
•Ms Trevicia Clarke of St. Johnson Village was recognized for her extraordinary work in probation and youth development.
•Eleven (11) corporate partners were recognized for their immense generosity to the Club during the Rotary year 2014-2015.
•Rotarians Maritza Bowry, Dr Cameron Wilkinson, Calvin Esdaille and Lester Hanley were single doubt for the continued commitment and exemplary service to the Club.
•Rotarian and Club Administration Chair Ms Kristal Gardner was presented the ‘Rotarian of the Year’ award for her extraordinary hard work and dedication and for illustrating true Rotarian spirit.
The evening’s proceedings drew to a close with Vote of Thanks given by Director Sandra Fontenelle and members and guests danced the night away to the rhythmic music of DJ Wett Dutt.
