Prime Minister Drew Urges Collective Effort for National Progress at New Year’s Celebration
Basseterre, St. Kitts and Nevis, January 6th, 2025 (PMO) – To welcome the new year—2025,
Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Terrance M. Drew, alongside Mrs. Diani Prince-Drew, hosted the Annual
New Year’s Gala, an elegant event that celebrated resilience, progress, and the boundless
opportunities for the Federation. The gala was held under the theme, “Building Prosperity Through
Sustainability,” encapsulating the Government’s vision for a thriving and sustainable future.
During brief remarks, Prime Minister Drew reflected on the nation’s achievements over the past
year and charted a hopeful path forward. “The journey ahead is one that requires collective effort”,
urging citizens and residents to embrace opportunities and contribute actively to national progress.
The Prime Minister highlighted key milestones from 2024, including:
A remarkable 26% growth in tourism and over 1 million cruise visitors expected for the 2024-2025
season.
The launch of the ASPIRE Programme, empowering 2,300 youth since its inception.
Groundbreaking initiatives in water security, renewable energy, housing, and healthcare.
A successful 90-Day Campaign Against Crime, resulting in a 19% reduction in reported crimes and
a 66% decrease in firearm-related homicides.
“These are not just policies; they are the building blocks of a resilient, inclusive, and sustainable
future,” Dr. Drew remarked. He lauded the collective efforts of citizens, civil servants, and
stakeholders, affirming that “Together, we are the architects of our destiny, and it is through our
shared commitment that we will realize our aspirations.”
The evening’s program featured vibrant performances by local talents, including Edward ‘Mighty J’
Williams, Infamus, and Christopher Martin, alongside inspirational moments such as the keynote
address by Ms. Raheemah Abdulaleem, Special Assistant to the President of the United States.
As 2025 begins, dubbed the “Year of Recovery,” Prime Minister Drew called on citizens to continue
fostering camaraderie and addressing critical challenges, including crime and economic resilience.
He outlined plans for the coming year, such as the construction of Basseterre High School, advances
in healthcare, and transformative agricultural projects like the Tabasco Hot Pepper initiative.
The gala concluded with a toast by the Prime Minister, joined by Mrs. Drew, who raised their
glasses to progress, unity, and the bright future ahead: “Here’s to a year of recovery and growth,
where we build together toward a brighter, stronger, and more prosperous St. Kitts and Nevis.”
