BEIJING, People’s Republic of China – 24th January 2024 — President Xi Jinping of the People’s Republic of China warmly welcomed Prime Minister Gaston Browne of Antigua and Barbuda during their significant meeting in the Great Hall of the People on Wednesday. President Xi expressed his delight in seeing Prime Minister Browne after a decade, noting that he is the first leader from Latin America and the Caribbean to visit China in the year 2024.

In a gesture of strong diplomatic camaraderie, President Xi praised Prime Minister Browne as a true friend of the Chinese people, acknowledging the significance of the longstanding and steadfast relations between the two nations. He commended Prime Minister Browne’s commitment to the One-China principle and the unwavering support provided on issues of mutual interest.

President Xi highlighted his government’s dedication to fortifying the strategic alignment with Antigua and Barbuda, aiming to elevate their relations to new heights for the mutual benefit of both nations. Prime Minister Browne reciprocated the sentiment, praising President Xi’s global leadership, particularly lauding initiatives such as the Belt and Road, the GDI Institute, and the Civilization and Security initiatives.

During the exchange of pleasantries, Foreign Minister E. P. Chet Greene and Health Minister the Hon. Molwyn Joseph participated in the signing of several Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) with their Chinese counterparts. These agreements are set to foster closer cooperation in health, education, and infrastructural development in Antigua and Barbuda. The visit underscored the strong diplomatic ties and cooperative spirit between the People’s Republic of China and Antigua and Barbuda.
