BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, May 15, 2017 (Press Unit in the Office of the Prime Minister) – St. Kitts and Nevis’ Prime Minister, Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris has extended words of congratulations to Dr. Hubert Minnis, the new Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas, on his party’s historic victory in the country’s general elections.

Dr. Minnis’ Free National Movement (FNM) party secured 35 of the 39 contested seats in the May 10th elections.

Prime Minister Harris’ congratulatory letter to Prime Minister Minnis reads:

“Dear Dr. Minnis

Greetings!

I have the distinct honour of extending a hearty note of congratulations to you and your victorious Free National Movement (FNM) on your resounding victory at the polls in your country’s historic 2017 General Elections.

Indeed, the people of The Bahamas have sent a clear signal that a change of course was necessary, and have provided you with a strong mandate to breathe life into your development agenda as proposed in your election campaign.

Two years ago, the people of St. Kitts and Nevis made a similar decision, which was transformational, thereby setting us on a solid path for achieving sustainable development in all its dimensions. Our experience has proven that the road ahead will not be easy. Success is guaranteed while you remain true to the cause for which you so successfully advocated prior to your election to high office.

I look forward to working with you in the Caribbean Community and other international fora as we tackle the numerous challenges we face as Small Island Developing States.”

The Honourable Dr. Hubert Minnis was sworn-in as the fourth Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas on Thursday, May 11th, 2017.
