Basseterre, St. Kitts, (August 26, 2015):- The ongoing law enforcement efforts to combat and reduce violent crime in St. Kitts and Nevis has again yielded positive results with the interdiction of an illegal firearm and ammunition on Tuesday 25th August 2015.

In a joint operation conducted by Her Majesty’s Customs and Excise Department and units of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force, Akile Keithroy Glasgow a resident of Sandy Point was detained in Basseterre after collecting a suspicious package. Further investigations confirmed that the package contained a quantity of compressed cannabis (marijuana) and an illegal firearm with matching ammunition.

Upon completion of the investigations, Akile Keithroy Glasgow was formally arrested on August 26, and charged with the following offences: Possession of Cannabis, Possession of Cannabis with intent to supply and Importation of Cannabis.

Mr. Glasgow was also charged with the illegal possession of a firearm and illegal possession of ammunition. He has been remanded until trial.

The Comptroller of Customs and the Acting Commissioner of Police have both expressed their appreciation for the dedication and vigilance of the officers in both law enforcement agencies.

Assistant Commissioner of Police with responsibility for Crime, Ian Queeley, in commenting on this incident, said, “this interception brings to 13 the number of illegal firearms confiscated to date this year and has surpassed the total for last year.”  He also reiterated that the fight against crime takes all of us, and urges the public to say something if they see something.  “Contact your nearest police station, or use the anonymous tip line, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-8477(TIPS) to report any criminal activity,” he stressed
