The Dominica Association of St Kitts and Nevis (DASKN) would like to thank the people of St Kitts and Nevis for the outpouring of support received in the relief efforts for Dominica following the recent disaster.

On Saturday 29th August, DASKN joined an initiative by the Rotary clubs of St Kitts and Nevis and Liamuiga to ship supplies via the MV Abigail. A number of individuals and businesses came on board to ensure a rapid and timely response.

Efforts continued through a number of churches including the Saddlers Pentecostal Church, the Catholic Church, the Antioch Baptist church, the Moravian Church, the Methodist Church and Beacon of Hope, who held special prayer services and made donations – including cash.

RAMS Duty Free also came on board with a can and clothing drive held on the 31st August and 1st September. These items, along with other donations from individuals and businesses were shipped on Monday 7th September, compliments SL Horsfords, Tropical Shipping and King Ocean Shipping. Also, the Vibes Beach Bar, partnered with the DASKN on Thursday 3rd September in the hosting of a fund-raising activity towards the relief fund.

Additionally, a number of the organizations assisted with donations of supplies and cash. These include Kajola Kristada, St Kitts Marriott Resort, Business and Professional Women of St Kitts, Rams Trading Ltd, Island Purified Water, Royal St Kitts, Four Seasons Resort, Contec, The General Post Office, The Eastern Central Bank Staff, Scotia Bank, Conaree Football Club, Caribbean Credit Card Corporation and Credit Unions. Many individuals rallied small groups and donated generously to the cause. Special mention must be made of Tafari in Nevis.

Thus far, DASKN have been liaising with the Rotary Club of Dominica, Rev Peter Hill and Marcus Francis to assist in the distribution of the relief items.

The Association also plans to link with the Dominica Red Cross and possibly with merchants for the purchase and distribution of building materials to facilitate the rebuilding process.

Cognizant of the fact that rehabilitation and reconstruction are costly, DASKN persists with its efforts and therefore persons desirous of supporting may still do so through monetary donations at RBC (St Kitts) – account no 2200152.

The DASKN takes this opportunity to express heartfelt thanks to all those who donated in whatever manner. We appreciate your benevolence and pray God’s richest blessings.
