Basseterre, St. Kitts, June 10, 2016 (SKNIS): The St. Kitts-Nevis Chamber of Industry and Commerce (CIC) and the Police High Command met on June 03, 2016, over concerns about how best to work together to tackle crime in the Federation, according to a joint press release.

The press release stated that the Police Commissioner and his team presented an update of the initiatives taken by the police in the fight against crime and highlighted aspects of the current crime fighting plan which has been implemented and the results yielded to date.

The Chamber, it is said, presented a few recommendations, which were discussed and will be considered by the Police High Command.

“Both institutions are in agreement that the fight against crime requires the cooperation of the entire civil society and the involvement of other community-based organizations,” the release stated.

“Both parties also agreed that the meeting was fruitful and have committed to closer collaboration as we work together to ensure citizen safety by creating and maintaining a secure environment where we can live, work and do business,” it further stated.

On May 31, 2016, Commissioner of Police Mr. Ian Queeley, responded to a letter written to him by the CIC over concerns with crime with specific apprehensions over “business security, citizen security and preservation of our national heritage.”

Mr. Queeley said in his letter that he considers the CIC “a valued partner and will endeavour to keep it that way” while saying that he looked forward to an audience with the organization at the earliest convenience.

The joint communiqué was signed by Commissioner of Police Mr. Ian Queeley and President of the CIC, Mr. Jose Rosa.
