(LOOP TT) Buju Banton’s first concert will be held in Trinidad and Tobago on April 22, 2019.
The announcement was made aboard the Love and Harmony Cruise on Sunday night by Jodian Ebanks, a member of the singer’s marketing team.
There were no details on where the concert will be held. Ebanks reportedly said the dates, travel schedules, and all the other variables came together to make the April show a reality. A concert will be held in Jamaica at a later date.
Some Jamaicans on Irie FM’s Facebook page questioned why Jamaica wasn’t selected for the first show.
“What de ass? Fi real? That’s a big disrespect to Jamaica. The man should perform back a yard first. Seen?” said one person.
Buju, real name, Mark Myrie, is expected to be released from a US jail on December 8 where he has been serving a drug trafficking sentence since June 2011.
Donovan Germain, who produced some of the singer’s biggest hit songs, told a newspaper last year that demand for the Jamaican entertainer has been high with promoters calling from all over the world, including the Caribbean.
Buju is no stranger to T&T having performed there many times since the beginning of his career.
Loop attempted to reach out to the Irie FM entertainment team for more information but they are still aboard the Love and Harmony cruise which ends on March 29.
