Ag Supervisor of Elections Assisting Police with Investigations into Events surrounding Announcement of St.Kitts-Nevis Elections Results
Ag Supervisor of Elections Mr Wingrove “Parrot” George is assisting the Criminal Investigation Department of the Royal St.Christopher and Nevis Police Force with investigations into the Electoral Office and the Events surrounding the February 16th General Election Results Announcement.
George created a Local, Regional and International stir when he abruptly stopped the announcing of results of the February 16th Polls. At around 3am on the morning of the Feb 17th George informed members of the media who were present at the electoral office along with officials of the the state-owned radio station ZIZ , that he would no longer be announcing any results from the elections. ZIZ Anchor Eboni Branded announced “”The count in St. Kitts-Nevis has come to a halt. The Supervisor of Elections has advised that for the rest of this morning in any event, no further public announcement will be made in respect of the count.”
It is understood that the office has been closed to the Public and is currently in the hands of Law Enforcement as they carry out their investigations.
Electoral Office Manager Mr Oliver Knight is on vacation leave and the staff have been relocated temporarily to the NEMA Building.
It wasn’t not until late on the day of the 17th of February , almost 24 hours after the announcements began, that George, who said he was seeking to ensure that the results were irrefutable, formally announced that the opposition Team Unity had won seven of the 11 seats, which were at stake. The other four seats were won by the incumbent St Kitts-Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP) of former Prime Minister Dr Denzil Douglas and the Nevis Reformation Party (NRP). The two parties had formed a coalition of their own which the labeled the SKNLP/NRO “ONENESS ALLIANCE” for the poll.
The actions of George drew widespread condemnation from regional and international heads of government as well as officials of many International Organisations.
