Upper Cayon Resident Damien Liburd Sentenced for Drug-Related Offences

Basseterre, St. Kitts – Damien Liburd of Upper Cayon, St. Kitts, has been sentenced for multiple offences related to the importation and possession of controlled substances.

Liburd was jointly charged by the Comptroller of the St. Kitts and Nevis Customs and Excise Department and the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force (RSCNPF) for several offences, including:

  • Importation of a Controlled Drug
  • Importation of Restricted Goods Not in Accordance with Restrictions and Conditions
  • Submitting a False Customs Declaration
  • Intent to Deceive a Customs Officer

Following a trial, he was found guilty on all charges and sentenced accordingly:

  • Importation of a Controlled Drug: Convicted and fined EC$5,000, payable within four months, or a default penalty of one year imprisonment.
  • Submitting a False Declaration to a Customs Officer: Fined EC$2,000, payable within six months, or a default penalty of six months imprisonment.
  • Importation of Restricted Goods Not in Accordance with Restrictions and Conditions: Cautioned.
  • Intent to Deceive a Customs Officer: Fined EC$2,000, payable within six months, or a default penalty of six months imprisonment.

Liburd was sentenced on January 27, 2025, by Magistrate Her Honour Mrs. Rhonda Nisbett-Browne at the District “A” Magistrate Court in Basseterre.

Authorities continue to warn against illegal drug importation and customs violations, reinforcing their commitment to upholding the laws of St. Kitts and Nevis.
