Basseterre, St., Kitts, July 2, 2018 – High Court Judge His Lordship Mr. Justice Trevor Ward has agreed to allow both sides of the Denzil Douglas Parliamentary Disqualification case to engage expert witnesses in the matter . The legal team for Leader of the Opposition, the Right Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas in the Dominica Diplomatic Passport case applied for the use of an expert witness. He ruled in favor of the application and allowed for a similar application to be made by the Legal  Team of the Government .

The legal team of the government today also gave notice that they intend to file an application to cross examine Dr. DENZIL Douglas in the matter. This according to most experts, will likely be granted and Douglas will be bound to take the witness stand in his own defense. The Legal Team for the government remain extremely confident and continue to be buoyed by the plethora of precedent setting decision in similar cases throughout world and in particular the commonwealth.

The diplomatic document began circulating on social media and raised questions regarding Dr. Douglas’ allegience and his eligibility to sit as an elected parliamentarian. The circulated photos were dismissed as fake  . Within weeks of the circulated copy of the Douglas Dominica passport surrogates of the Opposition began circulating a photo-shopped or fake copy of a similar document featuring a Dominica diplomatic passport purported to be that of current  SKN  Prime Minister Dr Timothy Harris. With Dr. Douglas saddled with this ongoing matter a renewed call from within his party circles and from citizens to resign has been made for him to resign as SKN Labor Party Leader and Opposition Leader until the matter is settled. The disqualification of MP Douglas will likely mean his replacement as Opposition Party by Dr Terrance Drew or Hon Marcella Liburd.
