 (Sunday September 24th):- St.Kitts-Nevis has again stepped up to the plate in a major way and has proven again to be Dominica’s greatest friend , especially in times of need. In a Post Hurricane Maria address to the Nation Prime Minister Dr Hon. Timothy Harris announced over $2.5 Million in pledges to Caribbean islands ravaged by Hurricanes Irma and Maria. This despite the fact that St.Kitts-Nevis suffered a total of  some $140 million in damages from both hurricanes.

PM Harris announced the committment of some $1 Million to Dominica. This is the most significant monetary committment of any Caribbean Island to the relief efforts of Dominica. In 2015 after the Passage of TS Erika St.Kitts -Nevis made a similar donation to the Dominica releif efforts after Erika when some $1million was given to the Dominica TS Erika recovery efforts back then. Similarly no other Caribbean country had made such a significant contribution. In addition to the $1million pledge PM Harris announced that Hospitals and Schools on St.Kitts-Nevis will be made available to displaced Dominican strudents  as well as CXC Students from other Hurricane ravaged islands. Additionally the RLB Airport has been offered for use as a staging platfor, for relief efforts into Dominica.

PM Harris said “I take this opportunity to pledge the support of the Government and people of St. Kitts and Nevis to the Commonwealth of Dominica. My Cabinet and I have reached out to Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit and his Government, and – as was extended to Anguilla and other
islands that were previously impacted by Hurricane Irma – we have offered the use of the RLB International Airport as a staging platform for relief efforts into Dominica in the wake of Hurricane Maria.”

The St.Kitts-Nevis Prime Minister continued, “In addition to this, all four hospitals on St. Kitts and Nevis will be made available should the need for health services be required. Places will also be made available to accommodate displaced students in Dominica who are registered for upcoming CXC exams. They will be offered free enrollment into our schools until their own high schools are ready to accommodate them. Furthermore, our Federation will assist in the restoration of electricity supply to Dominica, and our Coast Guard vessels will assist with transportation where possible.”

• St. Maarten $200,000
