Basseterre, St.Kitts(September 25, 2016):- Miss UVI 2016-2017, Che-Raina Warner , took home the crown Saturday at the 31st annual National Black College Alumni Hall of Fame Queens Competition.
The competition was held September 21-25 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Atlanta. Prizes for the winner included a crown, sash, bouquet of roses, plaque, and a scholarship award of $5,000.00.
The St.Kitts Queen competed against 29 college queens from Historically Black Colleges and University’s (HBCU) around the US.
Warner, age 24, is a junior majoring in communication at UVI. Her career aspiration is to become a professionally trained journalist, reporter and news anchor.
Cheraina will now serve as a national representative and advocate of HBCUs, and she will receive an academic scholarship and other prizes.
Che-Raina Warner expressed her gratitude to the V.I. Department of Tourism for partnering with UVI to sponsor her now successful quest to become Miss NBCA Hall of Fame Queen 2016-17. She also thanked everyone who has positively impacted her journey, including Leon Lafond, Ashikisha Maduro, the SGA Queen’s Committee and Lisa Wynne-Magnuson of VI Etiquette.
The Former Haynes Smith Miss Caribbean Talented Teen Queen had great support at the event including family and friends . Deputy Prime Minister of St.Kitts-Nevis Hon. Shawn K Richards was also present in Atlanta to lend support to Cheraina who was born and raised in Sandy Point where Hon Richards is the Parliamentary Representative.
According to the NBCA’s website, The focus for the Competition of Black College Queens is to provide an opportunity for young women attending the nation’s Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) to better prepare for the future. The competition encourages the contestants to gain self-awareness, self-confidence, individual pride, pride for their institution and a greater social awareness overall.
Congrats, however, give ur life to the Lord and move away from the lusts of this world, pride of life.
