If there were any doubts in anyone’s mind that the Original Burning Flames are back and in full effect those doubts should be easily erased after their recent performance in Toronto over the weekend.

The The Re-united Original Burning Flames gave Torontonians a memorable performance over the weekend bringing back memories of the young brash 80’s soca band that took the world by storm with hits such as Iron Band, Stylee Tight and of Course Workey which can easily be described as the first ever true groovy soca hit.

Burning Flames burst onto the music scene in 1985 as Endless Vibrations before becoming  Burning Flames with their  first hit “Stylie Tight”. After over a decade of tremendous success and being widely regarded as the most popular Soca Band in the world, irreconcilable differences between two of the Original members brothers Toriano “Onyan” Edwards and Clarence “Ounkgo” Edwards brought an end to the Original line-up . The break up saw Onyan emerge as a successful solo Act and Calypsonian and Ounkgo forming the Red Hot Flames.

Both Onyan and Ounkgo achieved some level of success in their separate endevours. However none were able to achieve the tremendous success of their early days as members of the Original Burning Flames.  Onyan eventually teamed up with brother David Krokuss Edwards to form Onyan and the Burning Flames which had some success. But again the success there was pale in comparison to the 80’s success of the band.

In 2014 there began overwhelming calls by fans and promoters alike for the band to have at least one reunion performance. Their calls were answered in 2015 when the Original members reunited for a performance at the Yasco Complex in St. John’ s Antigua. The overwhelming response inspired the members to officially reunite and are now “on the road again” as the Original Burning Flames.

After their spectacular performace in Toronto at the weekend the band will be making a number of North American stops including  New York over the  July 4th weekend . Among the bands upcoming performances is the 20th St.Kitts Music Festival on June 23rd. It will be the first time for the original Line –up of the band on a St.Kitts Music Festival stage. And the first performance of the Original Flames in over 20 years.  St.Kitts was one of the band’s most popular venues during their hey day in the 80’s and 90’s. In fact the legend has it that the song “Workey” was inspired during one of the bands performances in St.Kitts at the Fisherman’s Wharf in 1988. The band also famously gave St.Kitts carnival one of the most memorable street jams in history in 1989. The first and only foreign band to date to ever have a street jam in St.Kitts.

The Original Burning Flames will be joined on Night 1 of the St.Kitts Music Festival by Bouyon Pioneers the Original WCK along with Nu-Vybes and Small Axe, Soca Diva Shanna, Soca King Nicha B, Spanish hit makers El Mayo Classico and the Wutliss Kes the Band.
