ST.KITTS AND NEVIS VOTES YES TO HISTORIC UN ASSEMBLY RESOLUTION CONDEMNING THE RUSSIAN INVASION OF UKRAINE
St.Kitts and Nevis voted YES in favour of a UN General Assembly resolution condemning Russia’s invasion of Ukraine . SKN Permanent Representative to the UN His Excellency Ambassador Ian MacDonald Libued voted YES along with 140 UN colleagues. 35 nations including China, India, Pakistan, Cuba etc abstained while 11 countries didn’t vote. The “no” votes were Belarus, Eritrea, North Korea, Syria, and Russia.
In commenting on the history vote His Excellency Ian Liburd said “Our’s was a vote to endorse the Purposes of the United Nations that include the maintenance of peace and security throughout the world also the Principles of its Charter which is based on the sovereign equality, political independence and territorial integrity of all its Members”
“This is the first resolution of its kind brought to the General Assembly and Members who voted in favor marked this historic moment by signing a copy of the charter which be handed to UN Secretary General Antonio Gutteres,” Ambassador Liburd concluded
