The new Wellington Road Condominium Complex is set to begin construction shortly according to Officials.

Containers for storage and Project Offices have been placed to facilitate start of construction

The multi- Million dollar  project will see the government constructing 10 new Condo-styled properties  with six middle-income style homes in each  for residents of the Wellington Road and West Street junction and East Basseterre. When completed, the new complex  will accommodate some 60 families in modern living spaces

The magnificent designs for  condos were completed by Trevor Fraites and Associates. The project was somewhat delayed as The Team Unity government and Minister Ian Patches Liburd pursued the construction of Temporary homes for the current residents in the area in order to facilitate a smooth transition for the residents. That project is just about completed and thus it opened the door for the start of construction of the Condo Complex. It is said that the plans for the new condo complex would be similar to the new condos in Vancouver Canada, providing new long term homes for their residents.

Minister of Public Infrastructure and Parliamentary Representative for Constituency One, Hon. Ian ‘Patches’ Liburd described the location as being a “slum”, reminding that some of the houses there currently  were constructed in the 1950’s.

He said the only improvements made to the homes was done under a PAM administration during the 80’s .

“Although they would be middle income type houses; we say whether you are poor, middle income or upper income, under Team Unity even poor people must live in middle incomes houses too.”

In a ceremony held last year to commemorate the gorund breaking Prime Minister Dr. Hon. Timothy Harris declared “”This project is a major development in the efforts of the Team Unity Administration to deliver more homes to our people. To improve and increase the state of ordinary people in the St. Kitts and Nevis that they love, and which we all love.”
