Man Runs Into Police Station After Being Shot
St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN): A young man was rushed to the JNF Hospital with injuries to his rear end after gunmen opened fire on him around the corner from the St. Johnston Police Station at about 9:45 Thursday morning (July 21).
WINN FM was on the scene as several men lifted the wound man, identified as Vernon Elliott alias “Pest” of St. Johnston Village, taking him from the police station over to the hospital.
Persons on the scene indicated that Elliott was on Virgil Newton Street, the road running parallel to the JNF exit, when shots rang out. According to unconfirmed reports, an unspecified number of gunmen gave chase to Elliott, firing at him even as he ran along Station Street in the direction of the police station. Several spent shells were seen in the road along Station Street.
Elliott ran into the station to evade his assailants.
Persons on the street lamented that the criminals were emboldened to go after their target in broad daylight in such close proximity to the Police Station. They reported that residents and young children on summer vacation were near the scene when the shooting began.
The villagers also complained that residents had to manually transport the victim across the road to the hospital when the station had police vehicles outside.
Various police units arrived on the scene approximately 15 minutes after the shooting, cordoning it off as they looked for evidence.
