Crown Counsel Shantrice Dorsett Arrested and Charged with Corruption and Accessory to Murder

Basseterre, St. Kitts – January 24, 2025
In a development that has sent shockwaves through the legal community, Crown Counsel Shantrice Dorsett, 29, of the Bladen Housing Project, has been arrested and charged with multiple serious offences, including Accessory After the Fact to Murder and Corruption.
The Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force confirmed that Ms. Dorsett faces a total of six charges, which stem from alleged criminal activities that occurred between July 20 and October 30, 2024. These charges include:
Two counts of Attempting to Pervert the Course of Justice
One count of Accessory After the Fact to Murder
One count of Misconduct in Public Office
Two counts of Corruption
According to police, the charges relate to a murder case involving a fugitive suspect who remains at large. It is alleged that Ms. Dorsett, in her capacity as an attorney and Crown Counsel, played a role in hindering the investigation.
This case marks an unprecedented incident in the nation’s history, as it is the first time a sitting attorney and Crown Counsel has been arrested and charged with offences of this magnitude.
The arrest has sparked widespread debate, with legal experts and citizens alike expressing concerns about the implications for the justice system. Further complications may arise also due to the fact that Attorney Dorset’s father is the Commissioner of Prisons Franklyn “Weatherman” Dorsett. Commissioner Dorsett no doubt will have jurisdiction over his daughter while she is remanded in prison if unable to get bail. Will she get special treatment or will she be afforded only the privileges of a normal remandee?
Police have assured the public of their commitment to pursuing justice without fear or favour. Investigations are ongoing, and further updates are expected as the case progresses.
The legal fraternity and the public await further developments in what is shaping up to be one of the most significant legal cases in recent memory.
