KITTITIAN SOCIAL ACTIVIST TURNED FUGITIVE CAPTURED IN ST.MAARTEN. DECLARES HIS INNOCENCE
Well known Kittitian Social Activist, Poet and Fisherman turned fugitive Kenneth “Ken” Crossley has been captured in St.Maarten.
The 43 year old who has been on the lam since August 20th 2013 was caught on Good Friday April 18th according to reports. Crossley was a person of interest in a crime and was apprehended only to later escape Police custody. In September of 2013 a Police Bulletin was issued for Crossley for Escaping Lawful Custody
Commissioner of Police CG Walwyn told the Observer Newspaper “ They may run, but they can’t hide. This is the second fugitive to be caught in one of the surrounding islands, showing a new zero-tolerance for not permitting fugitives from St. Kitts-Nevis to hide in their countries…thanks to tips from our social media (Facebook and Twitter), email, and CrimeStoppers.”
In February another fugitive , Kemo Fleming, was captured in Antigua. Flemming was wanted in connection with the June 2, 2013 murder of Sheldon “Sword” Cannonier.
Crossley however, despite being on the lam, was very active on Social Media and used his Facebook page to declare his innocence. In a post made to his facebook page on April 19th seemingly just prior to his arrest he made the following statement
“To Family and FRIENDS! ARRESTED IN A FOREIGN COUNTRY! AWAITING BEING SENT BACK TO MY HOME COUNTRY TO FACE CHARGES OF WHICH I AM INNOCENT. LOVE YOU ALL. MAY NOT BE ONLINE FOR A WHILE!”
Crossley’s very articulate presentations and distinct voice highlighting many social issues was a regular fixture on radio talk shows in St.Kitts-Nevis. He was also a regular performer on the the Island Expression Poetry Night series. He is a fisherman by profession.
