Jobseekers reminded to use all resources at their disposal
KINGSTON, JAMAICA — Ahead of the Ministry of Education launching a recruitment platform for careers in education, the CEO of a leading recruitment firm is encouraging jobseekers to take full advantage of all of the resources available to them.
Joseph Boll is CEO of Caribbean Employment Services Inc., a market-leading digital talent acquisition service that aims to connect the top talent from the Caribbean with hiring managers, HR professionals and decision-makers in companies both within the Caribbean as well as abroad. Its platform functions similarly to how the Ministry of Education’s new platform purports to once it’s launched at an unspecified date later this year, should everything go according to schedule.
“It’s great to see this kind of platform launch and we look forward to its success,” said Boll. “We at Caribbean Employment Services Inc. share that same goal of striving to help citizens and residents easily find job opportunities that match their goals and skillsets, while simultaneously helping employers scout out the best talent in respective fields.
“But jobseekers shouldn’t put all of their proverbial eggs in one basket, or feel that they have to limit themselves to just one way of job hunting. There are many different methods for finding your dream job and getting that employer to notice you, and you should absolutely take advantage of every one. This goes not just for jobseekers but for seasoned professionals who may be exploring new opportunities too. The same employer may not advertise on all platforms, so you could limit yourself by sticking to just one.”
Boll also noted that the World Bank, in its recently published regional private sector diagnostic, lamented that the Caribbean region overall does not have enough of these kinds of services. That report did not single out Jamaica but maintained that “the region still lacks well-established labour intermediation services to link jobseekers with employment opportunities in the private sector.”
One of the reasons Caribbean Employment Services Inc. was launched to begin with was to address this challenge; and government agencies in countries like Bermuda, The Bahamas and others have likewise launched similar platforms. Although the World Bank acknowledged these efforts, it noted that data is lacking on how successful such government programmes have been. Nonetheless, Caribbean Employment Services Inc. continues doing its part to connect jobseekers and employers and supports the success of programmes that share a similar goal of improving the Caribbean labour market overall.
