BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, October 15, 2017 (Press Unit in the Office of the Prime Minister) – St. Kitts and Nevis’ Prime Minister, Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris has reaffirmed the commitment of the twin island Federation to the further strengthening of the already strong relationship it shares with the Government and people of the Republic of China (Taiwan), particularly now as that country recently observed its 106th anniversary of nationhood.

In a letter to Taiwan’s President, Her Excellency Tsai Ing-wen, Prime Minister Harris expressed his profound congratulations on behalf of the Government and people of St. Kitts and Nevis to Taiwan on the occasion of its 106th National Day – observed annually on 10th October.

The Honourable Prime Minister wrote, “To have achieved 106 years of nationhood and nation-building is indeed remarkable. The commitment and resilience of your people have not only propelled Taiwan to a successful path of development but have also paved the way for the Republic of China to become a leader in significant areas of development such as information technology and renewable energy. This accomplishment resonates well among Small Island Developing States like St. Kitts and Nevis that endeavor to chart a sustainable path to development by emulating nations like Taiwan that have prospered economically.”

Dr. Harris also paid tribute to the close and enduring friendship the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis has built with Taiwan since the establishment of diplomatic ties 34 years ago.

The Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis added: “The assistance rendered and expertise shared by your Government in the fields of education and capacity building, agriculture, tourism and culture, information technology, renewable energy, security and health have served to safeguard the welfare of our people.”

“Excellency, as you celebrate the history and achievements of your beloved nation, I take this opportunity to reaffirm my Federation’s commitment to this very important relationship which will only grow stronger in the years to come. I further wish to assure you, Your Excellency, of our continued and unwavering support of Taiwan’s integration into the international arena,” Prime Minister Harris stated in his letter to President Tsai.
